The first tuba was invented by Wilhelm Friedrich Wieprecht and Johann Gottfried Moritz in Berlin Germany on September 12, 1835. The tuba is almost entirely made out of brass and has about 16 feet tubing.
Tubas were originally designed to be played while marching instead of while sitting. Later the mouthpiece position was switched to the position it is now in and players can sit down and play it. The tuba is played in concert bands and marching bands. Sound produced from a tuba comes from a vibrating column of air inside the instrument.
